Glossary

 

FMLA
The federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to care for a newborn or newly adopted child, a sick family member, or for the worker's own serious medical condition. Applies to workers in every state who work for companies with 50 or more employees or for public agencies, and who have worked for their employer for at least one year.

 

TDI
Temporary Disability Insurance, provides partial wage replacement during disability or illness not related to the workplace (Workers' Compensation covers job-related disabilities).

 

UI
Unemployment Insurance is a federal-state cooperative program designed to provide insurance to workers with partial replacement of wages lost by involuntary unemployment.
